As we are embarking on our 3WC...we can look at 7 Things to Remember About Feedback

  1. Feedback is not advice, praise, or evaluation. Feedback is information about how we are doing in our efforts to reach a goal. Grant Wiggins p.10
  2. If students know the classroom is a safe place to make mistakes, they are more likely to use feedback for learning. Dylan Wiliam, p.30
  3. The feedback students give teachers can be more powerful than the feedback teachers give students. Cris Tovani, p.48
  4. When we give a grade as part of our feedback, students routinely read only as far as the grade. Peter Johnston, p.64
  5. Effective feedback occurs during the learning, while there is still time to act on it. Jan Chappuis p. 36
  6. Most of the feedback the students receive about their classroom work is from other students--and much of that feedback is wrong. John Hattie, p.18
  7. Students need to know their learning target--the specific skill they're supposed to learn--or else feedback is just someone telling them what to do. Susan Brookhart, -.24
Do any of these statements resonate? Miss the mark? Are partially correct? How can we make feedback effective for our students?

Google Summit

Dear colleagues,

We had a few last-minute cancellations for the Google Summit happening at our school this weekend.

If you missed the opportunity to sign up earlier, but if you're still interested in attending, I have three extra tickets that I would be happy to share.

The Summit will take place at our campus on Friday (1.30pm-5.30pm) and Saturday (8.30am - 4.30pm). It's a fantastic event that brings together like-minded professionals to discuss the latest trends and innovations in Google for Education.

If you're interested in attending, please let me know, and I'll happily add you to the staff already registered.

Best regards,

Sara

Emerging Technologies for Diverse Learners

This is a recorded presentation from the Shake Up Learning Back to School Conference in 2021. In this session, we will take an in-depth, hands-on look at emerging technologies that can be used in the regular education setting and in the core content areas to assist our diverse learners. We will look at a variety of free resources that can have a positive impact on all students, specifically those that may need additional support in the classroom. Google Chrome Extensions and Add Ons have become a valuable learning tool for students that struggle with access to the general curriculum. We will look at many free options in Chrome. Tips and Tricks of using Google Workplace for Education tools to accommodate our struggling learners will also be shared.
