11th January

                                                                 It's good to talk!

PLT would like to offer a short session each day for all staff to use as a friendly check in.  The session will be from 12.45pm until 1.15pm from Sunday to Wednesday over the next few weeks.

If you have any questions or topics that you would like to air or discuss with PLT this is the time when you can do it.

Also, if you just fancy a check in, or some adult online conversation, you are also welcome to come along and join us.

The sessions are optional, so you don't need to accept the invitation, just use it when you intend to come along for a chat.

Feel free to come along and join the conversation.

AIM Team support

The AIM team would like to share the following activity, link here, to help with students literacy skills. This activity is based on turning uninteresting sentences into fabulously exciting sentences. They are also great for students to share with one another.

If you feel the activity is suitable for your year group then please do use it with the students you believe may find it useful.

Google Level 2

Congratulations to Sam Cato who became our latest Google Level 2 achiever! Well done to Sam for this achievement!

Student rewards

It's great to see all the positive rewards rolling in! Please be generous with these at the moment - it's tough for our students to be back to online learning, let's "catch them being good" as much as possible! Thank you for all that you do.

Please report any inappropriate posts to admin - if the IP address has been used before to access the school network, it's a fairly straightforward job to prove guilt. We have had some success with this recently.

Also, please refer to this document here if you require information regarding how you can deal with challenging behaviour that may present itself while teaching online.

Just in case you are looking for some support regarding online expectations please refer to this presentation for guidance. We are unsure how long we will be teaching online moving forward, but it is always a good thing to have these expectations in mind.

You may enjoy this article, it's a toe-in-the-water piece regarding learner autonomy, with some simple "top tips"!

What with online learning and shortened timetables, you may be getting requests from parents for "homework", "extra work", "worksheets" and "more work"! It can seem like there's never enough work!

An idea to offset this may be to encourage students towards project work... this can be completely independent - a "passion project" on a simple level, according to the individual student's passions.

As always, "Guidelines, not tramlines", here are a few suggestions:

  • a higher proportion of paper as opposed to screen - minimise the screentime
  • it won't be graded
  • students can present results to classmates
  • rewards will be given out
  • pair up with a friend or work alone
