Qatar National Day Celebration Thursday, Dec. 16th

Year 5 science

Year 5 got to try out being scientists this week and explored a variety of different experiments. Some practiced writing in invisible ink and others got to create their own bouncy balls using mixtures.

5-1 got to watch a volcanic eruption by reacting powder and liquids, while 5-8 got to explore shadows and turn into human sundials. 5-5 challenged themselves to build far throwing catapults while 5-7 created awesome lava lamps. 5-3 painted with colors extracted from mnms and 5-6 got to extinguish candles with gases made from reactions.

5-2 were amazed at the shadows growing and shrinking during the day and 5-4 got to mix in a little math and create marshmallow 3D shapes. Year 5 students also got to demonstrate their very own experiments and explain to their classmates how it all happened.

There was some amazing and creative displays and there’s definitely a lot of budding scientists within Year 5.

Qatari Poem competition

On Sunday, Mr Yaser went with Abdullah Abdelwahab in 6.2 and Hamad Al-Ishaq in 5.4 to a poetry competition which involved a number of schools. It was specifically based on Qatari poetry and it gave the boys a chance to delight audiences with their words. They chose a poem to recite and spoke brilliantly. Congratulations to them for their superb efforts.

Mythical Creatures

Please see below some cross curricular work with Year 5, where students where learning about Mythical Creatures. Year 5 used their knowledge to design their own Mythical creatures first before creating a 3D sculpture. Their finished pieces were fantastic!

Hour of Code

A number of year groups have continued to carry out the Hour of Code and have done so with great success! Here are students below engaging with the activities and there is also a video of year 1 students carrying out a coding dance. Click below to see their fancy moves!
